When to create an Amazon FBA removal order?
There could be many situations when you need your inventory items to be returned back to you or disposed of. But, we’re going to discuss some major ones here:
To avoid LTS fees:
When your products stay in the Amazon stock for more than 12 months, you have to pay what’s called the Long-term storage fees. To save yourself from having to pay this fee, you can have your products returned back to you by creating an Amazon FBA removal order.
To remove poorly-reviewed items:
If some of your items are constantly having poor reviews and/or returned, there’s a pretty high chance that something is wrong with the stock of these items. It’s a good idea to get these items shipped back to you through an Amazon FBA removal order.
To remove stranded inventory:
These are the items that can’t be resolved and you’re not able to get them to “active” status. You can create an Amazon FBA removal order to get these items shipped back to you.
What is the fee for the return and disposal of FBA inventory?
After you’ve decided that you want your inventory returned or disposed of, you might be wondering what is the fee for the return and disposal of FBA inventory. Well, let’s help you.
If you want your inventory to be returned back to the location of your choice, you’ll be charged an amazon removal fee of $0.50 for each standard-sized item and $0.60 for each oversized item.
However, if you don’t want the items back and you just want to get rid of them, there’s a disposal feature you can use for the same. You’ll have to pay an amazon removal fee of $0.15 for each standard-sized item and $0.30 for each oversized item for its disposal.
Creating an Amazon FBA removal order:
Now, as you’re familiar with the necessary details, let’s guide you through the steps to create your removal order.
1. Navigate to the “Manage Inventory” page:
Open the “Manage Inventory” page and you’ll be presented with a list of all the products you have available in the inventory.
If you have a long list of products in the inventory, you can use the search bar to find the product you’re looking for.
When you see the product you want to be returned to you or disposed of, check the empty box on the left-hand side of the product. You can check the boxes of multiple items to remove them together.
After you’ve selected the products of your choice, click the “Action on X selected” drop-down menu, where X would be the number of products you have selected.
From the menu which then appears, click “Create removal order”.
2. Selecting the Method of removal:
When you click the “Create removal order” option, a new page will appear and 3 methods of removal will be presented to you. Let’s take you through each of these.
Ship to address: If you select this option, your selected products will be shipped back to you at your given address. A standard shipping-back fee (described in the detailed Fee section above) will be charged from you.
Dispose: “Dispose” is the second option available to you on this screen. If you select this option, Amazon will get rid of your selected inventory by disposing of it. Standard amazon removal fee of disposal will be applied if you choose to go with this option.
Liquidate: The third and final option available to you is Liquidate. It’s only available for selected products. When you select this option, Amazon will liquidate the selected items and you’ll get the money back. You don’t have to pay any amazon removal fee if you decide to go with this option.
3. Set an Order ID:
The next step is to create an order ID for your removal order. You can fill in a random ID or something else that’s easy to remember. If you leave the text field blank, an order ID will be automatically generated for your removal order.
4. Filling in the “Specify Ordered SKUs/Units”:
This section displays the list of products you’ve selected for the removal order. Each type of item is displayed in a separate row.
On this screen, you can define how many units of each type you want to be removed. There are two types of quantities in there; fulfillable and unfulfillable.
Fulfillable quantity is the number of items that are ready to be shipped out to the customers. Unfulfillable quantity, on the other hand, displays the number of items that were shipped back to Amazon because customers returned them, claiming that the items were faulty or defective. These items are sitting in your inventory space for no reason, these should be your first priority while you’re going for a removal order.
Above the total number of fulfillable and unfulfillable quantity available, there’s a text field where you can fill in the number of items you want to be removed.
After you’re done, click the “Continue” button below.
5. Place your order:
On the next screen, you’ll be presented with the complete details of your removal order.
Click the “Place Order” button and you’ll see a “Success” dialog at the top. The estimated removal time will also be displayed. The fee for the return and disposal of FBA inventory will be billed within 45 days of the removal.
Amazon FBA removal orders are a great way to get rid of under-performing or defective items in your inventory.
You could free up that space and use it for something more profitable for you. Getting the apparently “defective” items back lets you test them and see if they’re actually defective.
If they’re not, you can send them right back in.
